about

Over 300 students from 7 schools worked on writing this song! It's celebrating what they've been learning in Respectful Relationships

Victoria’s Respectful Relationships initiative supports school leaders, educators and our school communities to promote and model respect and equality – and to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

This song and video project was facilitated by Lena Mitchell, with seven of Respectful Relationships Lead Schools in the Loddon Campaspe Area of Victoria to capture some of our wonderful students’ understandings about Respectful Relationships. We proudly present - and hope you enjoy - ‘Being Me’.

Together we can lead the way in saying yes to respect and equality, and creating genuine and lasting change so that every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

lyrics

Being Me

Verse 1
Sometimes I’m like a small boat, feeling all lost at sea
No matter how I try, no one notices me
I’m scared of starting conversations, scared of being a friend.
They might be disappointed, I’m not sure how it will end.
Just because I’m different, doesn’t mean you should point it out
I want to be like other people, not being teased or talked about

Pre Chorus
But see the bricks of pride build inside me
Hear now the stampede of my bravery
Because this is who I’m meant to be

Chorus
I’m brave, creative, and I’m thoughtful
Forgiving, proud and resourceful
Grateful, kind, and I’m funny
Open, joyful, and I’m free

Yeah I’m me!

All you see, all you see, all you see is me
(Being me on last time)

Verse 2

Yeah I may hide away, but you know that I'm not afraid
No I don’t need to change, and I don’t need to be ashamed
You can’t have a rainbow without a little rain
But something I can do without is the pain
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can hurt us too
If we work together we can find a solution soon

Pre Chorus and Chorus

Rap
Don’t matter what the gender
Not in any case
Just don’t criticise a human face
When you’re walking down the street
On a daily basis,
You’ve gotta appreciate the human race.

I don’t care that I’m different
No one is the same
Go your own way; it’s the only way
Be happy don’t make people change

All you see all you see all you see is me

Verse 3
When we find strength in ourselves
We can lift up everyone else
We’re all stronger together
We can start; it’s now or never
Discrimination is never ok
I don’t care what they say
No matter race, gender or ability
We can work together in harmony
